Social Reconstruction Action (SORA)
Back Ground of the Organization :
Social Reconstruction Action (SORA) is an organization incepted
in 1990 for socio-economic development for the landless poor, destitute
and downtrodden people of the society in general started working when it
saw that people are driven to some sort of exploitation and are in right
les condition in the society. Religious practices strongly prohibit
women’s public mobility, personal life and other relevant social values
on women. In addition increasing landless, higher illiteracy rate, over
population is common problems of the area. Polygamy, early marriage,
drug addiction, frequent divorce, dowry, wife beating, separation with
dependent children, without maintenance and attention attack on women’s
Chastity, malnutrition, illness, hunger, injustice, migration to urban
area as maid servant, rickshaw puller, day laborer are salient feature
of the project area. Considering of all these problems, SORA intend to
do work with these downtrodden people especially women for their human
development and realization of their achievable rights as human being.
Legal Status :
SORA is a non-government, non-profit and non-political human rights
& development organization. Established in 1990 and registered
with the NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh
(Reg. no. 2575/2010), SORA also
registered with Department of Social Services
(Reg.No- Ja-282/93 ).
Vision of Organization
SORA envisages
a society free from discrimination, exploitation and abuse that is
economically productive and equitable, where peace and justice and sound
environment flourishes.
Mission of
Organization
Social Reconstruction Action (SORA)
is committed to work for the mist vulnerable members of the society.
SORA believes that all human beings have creativeness whatever their
educational level and position in the society. If they get the
opportunity to know or aware about their power and potentials, they can
change the direction of their lives and can also change the social norms
and practices. We will empower the hardcore poor to gain knowledge about
rights, through short and long-term projects and through participatory
approaches. SORA will work with out project participants to promote
self-reliance and access to resources so the hardcore poor people
especially women & children can achieve greater justice and live a life
a free from discrimination.
